2022 Toyota Prius

Sometimes, compromising isn't necessary.

When the 2001 Prius made its arrival in US Toyota dealerships 20 years ago, it charted a new course for the entire industry.  It is instantly recognizable with its wind-piercing shape and for 2022 it is the first dedicated hybrid model to join Toyota's growing family of Nightshade special editions. Available in both front-wheel drive and AWD-e, the new Prius Nighshade will brings unexpectedly bold style to the car that made "hybrid" a household word! 

The 2022 Prius Nightshade special edition is available in three color choices: Midnight Black Metallic, Super White and Silver Metallic. It comes equipped with black 17-inch five-spoke ally wheels on the FWD model, and 15-inch alloy wheels on the AWD-e version. On the XLE grade other features include 3-door Smart Key system, standard SofTex-trimmed, heated adjustable front seats, chrome accent interior door handles, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats and a retractable tonneau cargo area cover. 

Other updates for 2022 include the addition of "Rear Seat Reminder" which is now standard on all Prius grades. This vial safety feature is designed to activate based on door sequencing logic and can alert the driver that a child or pet is still in the back seat when the car is stopped, in park and the car is turned off. In addition, both the XLE and Limited grades add new integrated fog lights with LED accent lights. 

Service Connect trail, now available for all Prius grades, provides a vehicle health report and maintenance alerts to the car, and can also send maintenance reminders via email, the Toyota app or a Toyota Owner's online account. 

Charge up your daily drive.

The Prius Prime features an astounding 640-mile driving range and takes everything people love about the legendary hybrid vehicle and adds an estimated 25 miles of EV driving range (when fully charged).  In EV Auto Mode, the Prius Prime will favor the electric capability as much as possible. But in situations where it is more efficient to run the gasoline engine, climbing steep inclines for example - the extremely efficient gas engine will engage. In situations where the battery reaches a certain reduced state of charge in EV mode, the Prius Prime automatically and seamlessly switches to hybrid model. Then, like other Prius models, it combines the output of the gasoline engine and the electric motor through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission. 

Notably, Prius Prime drivers do not need to invest in special, expensive equipment for home charging. Using the supplied cable, Prius Prime plugs into a standard household outlet. (Toyota recommending using a dedicated GFI 15A outlet) As a plug in hybrid, Prius Prime's key advantage over a standard EV is that it does not need to be recharged to be driven. If you forget to plug it in, for example, and you have gas in the tank, the Prius Prime will simply function in hybrid model like any other Prius.

All 2022 Prius models are equipped with Toyota's Star Safety system which includes Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-Lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist and Smart Stop Technology as well as Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.  This advanced suite of driver-assist technologies also includes:
